AL-QUDS AN IMPORTANT PALESTINIAN

PARTNER FOR PEACE

Established in 2006, the al-Quds for Dialogue and Democracy is working on improving dialogue and peace in the Palestinian territories. al-Quds is specifically targeting young Palestinians, through our group of experts and professionals and a continuous programme of educational initiatives. We aim to enhance awareness of the importance of peace, pluralism, civic participation and democracy as a basic requirement of Palestinian citizenship, in preparation for statehood. To help achieve this, our team works closely with other Palestinian governmental and non-governmental organisations.

Essential to our programme is the idea of better dialogue among young people as a key strategy to overcome conflict. We have established a series of activities designed to suit the needs of young people with the aim of reducing violence. Providing opportunities and a sense of self-worth for children and young people by improving their abilities and activities can lead to dramatic change – laying the foundations for the future prospect of a more peaceful and pleasant environment in the Palestinian territories.

Our partnership with Children of Peace is still in its early stages but we are extremely positive that we can work together to help overcome decades of neglect, despair and mistrust. Many Palestinians long for peace and welcome this very important new charity.

Like many Palestinian organisations we face many struggles, including a constant need for funds and international support. If we are to reach our young people and make a difference, including overcoming suspicion and mistrust of their Israeli counterparts, we need the support and energy of an organisation like Children of Peace to help us promote civic partnership, develop dialogue, education programmes, conferences and seminars whilst establishing respect and friendship between Israeli and Palestinian children and young people.
