CHILDREN OF PEACE ENJOYS A
SUCCESSFUL LAUNCH November 2006
Virginia Taylor writes.. Over 100 people, including MPs, members of the national
and international press and representatives of Neve Shalom-Wahat al Salam, the Peres
Center for Peace, the Abraham Fund, Parents Circle and OneVoice, attended the very
successful Launch of Children of Peace in London last month at the Saatchi Atrium
in London, kindly donated to Children of Peace by sponsors M & C Saatchi.
This was a Launch with a difference: the lovely 17 year old Israeli singer Liel Kolet
– who is a Goodwill Ambassador for our Charity - accompanied by a young musician
Eldad Zitrin, sang the beautiful anthem she has written especially for Children of
Peace entitled: Dream of Tomorrow and John Lennon’s song: Imagine – reminding us
of her famous duet with President Bill Clinton.
At the Launch, Liel spoke movingly of her dream to help bring peace to the children
of countries torn apart by conflict, so that they can experience a normal childhood
and act as powerful ambassadors for a more peaceful future. Even at such a young
age she is already realising this dream by singing and spreading her message of hope
with politicians and leaders around the world including Bono and Nelson Mandela.
The Chairman, Richard Martin, spoke from the heart when he explained why he had founded
Children of Peace. “Bombs don’t recognise nationality, religion or age. They just
kill indiscriminately. And children on all sides of this conflict are victims – the
forgotten victims. I believe it is time speak up for them and to help bring together
the organisations on the ground in both Israel and Palestinian who are trying to
heal the wounds.”
Speakers included Mr Kassim Baddarni, the Director of the al-Taj for Health and Heritage,
based in the Galilee. The audience also responded positively to the Panel, that included
John Guyatt, the Secretary of the charity, Liel and Richard Martin, Goodwill Ambassador
Mansoor Ijaz and our new Trustee, Nihaya Daoud, the Palestinian child health expert.
Nihaya spoke of her work on the ground in Israel and Palestine. Other members of
the Panel –answered a number of lively questions from the press and the audience.
Other Trustees present at the Launch were Solange Azagury Partridge, Nicole Pritchard
Smith, Clare Packham and Virginia Taylor. Goodwill Ambassadors who joined the Launch
included Valerie Martin and Louise Ellman, MP for Liverpool, Riverside. Middle Eastern
cuisine was served as refreshments to the guests.
The event was followed by considerable coverage that included articles in the Western
Daily Press, Jewish News and the Totally Jewish website to interviews with LBC, BBC
Radio Manchester, Reuters and the Press Association.
