THE APPEAL
The 2008 Children of Peace Christmas-Hannukah-Eid Appeal asks you to send a parcel
of warm clothes to the children of Hope Flowers School in Bethlehem, Palestine.
THE SCHOOL
Hope Flowers School is a close partner of Children of Peace and a much admired Palestinian
affiliate.
Located in Bethlehem, this Palestinian school is a model for peaceful cooperation
and coexistence between Israel and Palestine. The children receive a full-time education
with a special focus on peace education and respect for the heritage, culture and
values of Palestinian Christians and Muslims and their Jewish neighbours.
WHY SEND WINTER CLOTHES?
To prepare for winter, many parents around the world are buying warm winter clothes
for their children.
But imagine a child going to school in the cold and rain, without a raincoat, jacket
or even a warm sweater because his or her parents cannot afford them and he or she
has to spend the whole day in an unheated classroom.
Unfortunately this is the case for several students at the Hope Flowers School. Last
week the rain started in Palestine and the weather turned cold. This cold period
normally lasts from mid November until March. We have recognised that some children
are still coming to the school in summer clothes or clothes that are not warm enough.
After following up with these students and their parents we found that these are
poor families who cannot afford to buy new winter clothes.
Hope Flowers School has 300 students, and 80% of these come from refugee camps and
rural areas. Many of them have unemployed parents that cannot afford paying basic
expenses for their children. The children at the school need your help urgently.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Children of Peace has responded by asking schools, friends, colleagues and supporters
worldwide to Send a Parcel to the school - just as you might to a member of your
family or friend who lives abroad this Christmas, Eid or Hannukah.
Simply go to the local shops and buy NEW clothes for a child for the winter. Choose
hats, trousers, scarfs, coats, sweaters, anoraks, bodywarmers, socks and parcel them
up securely. Please do NOT send second hand or used items.

Children's ages and sizes are:
Children ages are 4- 13 years old. The numbers are as follows. Each class has about
50% each of boys and girls.
4 years old: 30children, boys and girls, size 6
5 years old: 65 children, boys and girls, size 6, size 8
6 years old: 70 children, boys and girls, size 8
7 years old: 50 children, boys and girls, size 8
8 years old: 35 children, boys and girls, size 10
9 years old: 22 children, boys and girls, size 12
10 years old: 15 children, boys and girls, size 12, 14
11 years old: 15 children, boys and girls, size 14
12 years old: 15 children, boys and girls, size 16

If your children or your school want to write to the children, then please put a
seasonal note in the parcel and if your children want a pen pal, then write your
address and details on the card or letter.
